A grand day for a hike... and somehow we beat our club tradition and miraculously avoided rain from an incoming storm!
10 miles on the Chapel Loop at Pictured Rocks goes by quickly with all the amazing sites one gets to see! Passing by and viewing Chapel Falls, Chapel Rock, Chapel Beach, Battleship Row, Indian Head, the Grand Portal, Mosquito River, and Mosquito Beach makes for a full day of adventures... especially when you add in a strange fog bank and cold front! We had a great group of students and parents take on the challenge of our final hike for the school year.
Leaving Gwinn at 9, got us to our trailhead by 10:30.
The first few miles through the woods were pretty mosquito filled, but as we approached the lakeshore, the temperature dropped and the wind picked up... so we were happily bug free the remainder of the day!
Lunch at Chapel Beach gave time for every one fuel up and filter fresh water to stay hydrated. Onward we traveled enjoying the cooler temps and breeze to keep the mosquitoes away.
As we continued on to our second stopping point, Mosquito Beach, we had some good laughs along they way with critters and hollowed logs. Mosquito beach was another beautiful rest point, and napping point for some, as we relaxed before the final 2 miles of our trek.
We arrived back at the trailhead about 4:30. The group all decided that a celebration at Dairy Queen was in order as we journeyed back to Gwinn!
Here's to an amazing year of hiking and new friendships created on the trails of the Upper Peninsula! Until next year's adventures, get out there and "Take A Hike!"
